Non-Magnetic Drill Collar
A non-magnetic drill collar is a drill stem element machined from austenitic stainless steel with very low magnetic permeability. Installed around MWD/LWD instruments in the bottom hole assembly, it isolates directional survey sensors from magnetic interference caused by steel drill string components, allowing accurate azimuth measurement while providing weight on bit.

A drill collar is a thick-walled steel tube run at the bottom of the drill string to concentrate weight on the bit and keep the drill pipe in tension. Machined from AISI 4145H modified alloy steel and threaded per API Spec 7-2, drill collars are supplied in slick or spiral body styles in ODs from 3-1/8" to 11".

A drilling stabilizer is a drill stem element with blades that centralize the bottom hole assembly in the wellbore, controlling deviation and improving hole quality. Integral blade stabilizers are machined from a single forged bar of AISI 4145H Mod steel — or P550 non-magnetic steel for MWD zones — with spiral or straight blades dressed with tungsten carbide inserts or hardfacing.
